Why it works this way

Two rules shape everything you see.

A home is shown only while its last confirmation is under 14 days old.

A home appears only after its contact has been checked and a caretaker has confirmed it is vacant within the last 14 days. Each card shows the date it was last confirmed.

After you unlock, nobody listed may ask for a fee or deposit before you visit.

The rule covers agents, landlords and caretakers alike. Report any request to us. After a review, we can suspend the contact and credit back your unlock.

Checks reduce fraud but do not remove it. Apart from buying an unlock credit, do not pay anyone before you visit.

Home cards

What a card shows.

Dated checks, an approximate area until you unlock, rent, the caution fee, the service charge and a move-in total.

  • What was checked, and when: dated checks such as “Owner confirmed, 3 Oct” and “Last confirmed vacant, 2 days ago”. Each one has a date, and it expires.
  • An approximate area until you unlock the home. After you unlock, the exact location and directions.
  • Rent, the caution fee (the deposit), the service charge and a move-in total, so you can plan before you visit.

Alerts and Saved Listings

Your search keeps working between visits.

  • Alerts for new matches

    Turn on alerts and we'll tell you, in the app or by email, when a newly confirmed home matches your search. Every alert has a link to turn them off.

  • Saved homes keep their dates

    Saved Listings show each home's latest confirmation date, so you can see at a glance what is still current.

  • Unlocks that keep

    Unlocks you buy do not expire, so you can use them at different times.

Unlocks

Save first. Unlock the homes you choose.

Choose each home from Saved Listings, tap ‘Unlock this home’ and confirm. One unlock credit gives three unlocks. Unlocks you buy do not expire.

  • An unlock is used only if the home is available and its contact is ready. If not, you keep it.
  • A contact's number or email is shown only with that person's consent, and only after you unlock a home.
  • After 48 hours we ask whether the home was vacant and as shown. If a home turns out to be already let, or its contact does not answer within 48 hours, the unlock can be credited back. Limits apply.

How moving works

  1. 01

    You pay your landlord

    Rent goes to your landlord's own paybill, till or bank account. SpotRentt never holds, routes or escrows rent.

  2. 02

    Your landlord confirms the month

    Enter the M-Pesa code after you pay rent. Your landlord confirms it, and the month joins a rent record you own and can export.

  3. 03

    When the lease ends

    Ask for a move quote in the app when you give notice. You pay the mover directly. SpotRentt does not hold your money and does not guarantee the move.

Questions

Before you unlock a home

Who confirms that a home is vacant?
A caretaker SpotRentt knows replies every week that the home is still vacant. With no reply for 14 days, the home is hidden. SpotRentt staff or scouts also audit a share of listings.
What does an unlock show?
The exact location and directions, and at least one contact who has been checked and has agreed to be shown. If a home has two such contacts, you see both.
What if a saved home has no ready contact?
It cannot be unlocked yet, and you keep your unlock. Every unlock needs at least one contact that has been checked.
What if the home is already let after I unlock?
Tell us in the app, or answer the question we send after 48 hours. The unlock can be credited back. Limits apply.
Do unlocks expire?
Unlocks you buy do not expire.
Does SpotRentt take part of my rent?
No. Rent goes to your landlord's own paybill, till or bank account. SpotRentt never holds, routes or escrows rent. You enter the M-Pesa code, and your landlord confirms it.
How do I report a home or a request for money?
Use the report action on the listing in the app, or contact us. We review reports, can suspend a contact, and can credit back the unlock.
